I will admit that I like the Pevear/Volokhonsky (modern) translations of a lot of the 19th century Russian stuff, and I know Carson recommends it, but I do know a Russian man who really hates it.
I will admit another thing: this is my favorite aspect of litintrans, which is the word I've made up to describe literature in translation. That there is always disagreement. The translations are alive.
